Magnum Cafe @ Customs Terrace House

Wee! Proud to say that I've successfully tried to make my own magnum finally! This will be their last stop in Singapore I guess for their 25th Anniversary last pit stop at Custom Terrace house till 23rd July 2014.. How to navigate to this place? Raffles Place Mrt, Exit C, is kinda a long walk, you will ideally come out of OUE plaza, look for fullerton bay hotel, its just the the foot of the hotel, a bungalow-styled house of atas restaurants, then you will see Magnum cafe facing the awesome river nightsky... :)

Just short post for the dessert of my night after I tried Diandin Leluk to feature the pretty magnums... Bf chose milk chocolate based with dark chocolate drizzle, then Pixie Dust, almonds and cranberries, which turned out pretty well! about 6 bucks to make your own magnum;

Step 1: Choose chocolate coat (milk, white, dark)
Step 2: Choose 3 toppings
Step 3: Choose chocolate drizzle (milk, white, dark)
Step 4: Wee! you're done! Snap a photo, Instagram it, take a bite and share with your loved one

They had a new dessert dish launched and its called silver jubilee, saw some foreigner posting how awesome this tasted on Magnum FB page, and just got so tempted try... The 25th Anniversary limited edition Marc De Champagne magnum was awesome on its own, you could taste the champagne pretty strongly, whereas the pink Marc de Champagne had a lighter taste.. The cheesecake (obviously frozen) was pretty mediocre... For $16.90, this dish is worth a first try, subsequently I'll just go 7-11 and buy the Marc de Champagne alone to eat... :)

Diandin Leluk @ Golden Mile Complex

2 weeks ago I went to try this thai restaurant that a few food bloggers recommended due to taste and reasonable pricings. Diandin Leluk at level 1 of Golden Mile Complex, pretty findable.

The usual "四大天王" that we see in thailand street stores, but they variate, for this i had chilli powder, peanut powder, sugar, red chilli sauce and fish sauce.. in bkk i ever had cut green chilli sauce and chilli padi etc. When they have this, I sure spam it on my food..

Usual order of Ice thai tea and my lemongrass tea... thai tea was fine, but my lemongrass tea was too sweet! Probably cause I'm used to making my own, and always drink it with zero sugar..

Thai Mango salad, I always like to order this in Thai restaurants, cafes, but bf doesn't share this with me, so end up always left alot... This tasted mediocre, thailand's version at Kalpapruek is nicer, oh and Nara Thai's version also nicer cause they put haebi (dried shrimps) and pomelo bits, so its very fragrant..

Phad thai was mediocre as well, had the chicken version of it.. I'm sure I had better ones in Thailand or even Bukit Timah Hawker Centre's one from the thai food store..

This was alright to me, other places basil chicken tend to be spicier, but this dish still mangeable for me, i added quite alot of chilli flakes and stuffs after that.. XD

Green curry somehow lacked the"strong-ness" in basil and other herbs that I would have liked, but still a nice dish nonetheless... As I ordered too much, we had trouble finishing every other side dish I ordered... :(

Sambal Kangkong was the best, but was a lil on the pricey side? I think even local tzechar stores charge lower than them, this plate costs us $8.. Chilli and spice just right... I used to hate kangkong cause I get choke on it when i was young, the next part is gonna sound disgusting but you can just skip to the next paragraph I guess.. when i was young, didn't know how to chew or eat kangkong properly, everytime i swallow them, half of the length goes down the throat, and the other half of the length still in my mouth, end up having to vomit them out, and everytime i see kangkong i refuse it.. :(

Now for the tom yum seafood soup, well I personally like the spicyness and the sourish taste of this soup, practically drank this on my own... But bf didn't really quite like this, he only had a bowl or two, while I had half a pot... XD However, I still prefer those clear tom yam soup, they look so innocent and clear, but taste so very spicy and pungent!

The only plus point of this restaurant is that it is 24 hours, so anytime can just eat, especially if you are going to genting from golden mile, and your bus ride is in the morning and you wanna grab some thai food for breakfast, or when you're back in the wee hours of the night and you wanna grab some thai food for supper..

Overall, mediocre, don't think I will ever come back to this restaurant again just for Thai food, the price also abit expensive compared to local thai hawker stores or tze char stores, service people also like face not happy to serve like that, but if you guys still wanna try, just refer to address below;

I Am Café @ Haji Lane

Went shopping around haji lane area to digest our heavy brunch so that we can munch more food! And here's my 2nd pitstop, I Am café at haji lane.. They don't take reservations, so all customers have to walk in and queue at the lane opposite the café (FYI i didn't spot the queuing point.. Lucky for me, i didn't need to queue, was looking at the awesomely tall and huge cakes at the counter and happened to ask the nice lady who served us for a table for 2 pax, and she gave us seats though we didn't queue.. )

The only flaw to this café is that it is not air conditioned at all, so on a hot sunny afternoon, it can get pretty warm if you're having piping hot main courses here..

Lé bf grabbed his usual coke.. While i got their home brewed lemon tea, which they gave me their sugar syrup to add in, but I didn't.. The tea leaves that they use were pretty smooth, didn't give me that dry aftertaste, lemon juice was enough as well..

And the reason why i'm at the café was cause i wanted to try their rainbow mille crepé, but at 3+pm in the afternoon, it was all sold out! :( emo much.. Only left rainbow cake, red velvet cake and i think chocolate cake..

So here's the closeup of the awesomely colored cake! At only $8.90 per slice, cheaper than buttercake n cream and au chocolat! Lé bf and i finished it! You will like this cake if you love butter cakes! Texture was pretty heavy and dense, with rich buttery taste in every bite.. Whereas au chocolat's had a light and fluffy sponge.. Plus I Am's used buttercream instead of au chocolat's cream cheese..

This is another café that doesn't charge service charge, and ambience is pretty nice, cakes are nice too.. My observations of the other café-goers gives me the impression their main courses are not bad as well, and nothing on their menu is price more than $15.90! Though there ain't aircon, i will definitely come back here again! Need to catch their rainbow mille crepé to try! This is one of the 17 cafés to go to at kampong glam as mentioned by cafehopping.sg

Maison Ikkoku @ Kandahar St

This weekend, i visited 2 cafés and maison ikkoku was my 1st stop.. It wasn't hard to locate, but it was a few streets away from haji lane, and under the hot sun it was so terribly unbearable.. Heng this café is air-conditioned.. Didn't make reservations as i didn't do my research on this café so i didn't know they take reservations..

The interiors featured wardrobes hanged on the ceilings with their doors removed, and most of them were used as tabletops for this café..

I reached the café at about 1+pm, and for peak hours in a 1 level café i was pretty lucky, they said waiting time was 0.5hour, but i reckoned i waited less than that.. The waiting area had a shelf where they were selling pretty cute glass cups that you could buy home for your coffee or tea(i liked the turquoise colored ones).. They gave us a cosy seat near the cashier..
FYI, if you are making reservations for 2, you prolly want to mention you want a bigger table kind of seat, i noticed a couple near us that made reservations, but gotten a table that was as small as 2 A4 paper pieced together

I suggested for lé bf to drink this, its like sparkly refreshing orange juice made in italy and it was only $3.50nett! (You guys can buy this at supermarkets too!)

Being the tea freak that i usually am, i will always order a cuppa hot tea to accompany my food or desserts, aids digestion too! Saw a flavour that I haven't tried before in any cafés so far, so i ordered Bancha Hojicha at $6 nett, pretty fragrant!

Look at how orgasmic the food is! And the piling huge portions! So worth it can!

Lé bf ordered the Rendang Blackstone at $20 nett, and its consists of egg benedicts on top of rendang beef shreds with 2 slice of fluffy toasted bread, and a side of salad as well as watermelon balls.. This was something different from your usual egg benedicts with a local twist to it.. Lé bf & i adored this dish, i rather rendang sauce than the usual hollandaise sauce which i don't really like...

And this is what I ordered, Break of Dawn at $22 nett.. Super huge portion! Scrambled eggs was mild in flavour, i had to go with the chilli sauce or the extra crispy fried bacon to balance the flavours.. Cause the bacon was super salty, though it was very crispy, and i didn't finished it... The bratwurst sausage was awesome, just that i thinked the chef fried too long? Cause the exterior was wrinkled, and the interior was dry, would definitely prefer the sausages that are boiled than lightly pan-fried to maintain its juicyness...

The cherry tomatos were grilled nicely, and were red and juicy! Not a fan of baguette, cause they are usually dry and hard, but i layed the scrambled eggs on top, so it kinda made up for it... Wedges tasted normal, those frozen and seasoned kind you get at the supermarts.. I liked the salad dressing that came with the salad, saw almond slices, don't know if its almond oil or vinaigrette? The baked dish in the middle was actually baked orange that had cinnamon, lemon juice and honey and it was an awesome appetizer cum dessert..

Would definitely come here again to try their other stuffs, like i said earlier, i didn't do my research on this café so i didn't know what they have and what's nice.. Apparently, they have rainbow cakes here too, but i didn't know, so i didn't ordered :(

Good place for brunch and chilling, one of the 17 cafés to go to at kampong glam area as mentioned by cafehopping.sg.. Though it was nett price, service was pretty good. I asked the cashier for hot water refill for my pot of tea, and he asked me to take a seat and he'll serve it to me.. Awesome food awesome portions.. They are located at:

The Tiramisu Hero @ Tyrwhitt Road

Came here on a late friday rainy afternoon for some teatime with lé bf, came to try their popular tiramisu in jars..

So here's what i ordered, a pretty pot of earl grey tea that cost me $6.50 and a ice chocolate $7.50 for him..

And if you guys don't already know how much of a matcha freak I am, well now you all know.. Here's my mommahero size of it at $7.50.. My verdict? Tasted like normal green tea mousse sponge cake, green tea flavour was definitely lacking and not strong enough.. For the price, it certainly wasn't worth it, i've tasted better for that price..

Bought 2 other jars home to try as eating all 3 jars in a day was way too sinful..

Lé bf also order this chunky mushroom soup at $6++, both lé bf and I reckon that they've done a good job with this one, just that the portion was too small, for a small teacup..

Tried the original one but didn't like it after one bite, as the coffee was too bitter for me, and again i've tasted other tiramisu that is way better than this version..

Only order the lemon as the menu mentioned a hint of earl grey, opened my mouth to savour the cake, and i was like, so where's the earl grey again? More lemon than earl grey, disappointing lemon sponge cake..

Total 3 cakes, 1 soup & 2 drinks costs us $46.85 pretty expensive I would say.. Would definitely not order their cakes anymore... Just prettily packaged mediocre cakes, didn't like them.. Don't mind coming again to try their mains though..

Lola's Café @ Kovan

So i finally gotten the chance to try Lola's café, and I did so on a Friday early afternoon.. To my disappointment, didn't get to try the their famous chicken wings as i was too quick with ordering, and didn't notice it was written in the starters.. :(

They are priced pretty reasonably, and is a nett price café that doesn't charge for service.. It is advised to make reservations as indoor seating is really limited, from my observation, about less than 40pax, and outdoor seating is minimal too, about 10pax.. And i dont know if they are really popular, or they don't take dinner reservations, but i know that i once tried to make a reservation for a friday evening, but they didnt have tables after 5pm till like august or something...

Lé bf ordered their mango tango tea at $4.50 and found it really refreshing for a non-green tea drinker like him..

I ordered their organic chai tea latte at $5, and was pretty satisfied with this drink.. Look how cute the tea art was.. I <3 it..

Lé bf order their farmer's bratwurst roll at $8 and he found this really filling... It was juicy and tender, the fries was crispy in the outside and fluffy on the inside.. Both of us love this dish..

My avocado eggs benedict at $15... My verdict? Compared with the many egg bennys that i have tried so far, this is by far the one with the most hollandaise sauce, as if the eggs wasn't runny enough, then with the overflowing sauce, it made eating this dish a challenge, everything was so messy when i cut the eggs together with the avocado, ham and soft bread... Nonetheless, it was still yummy and satisfying..

Well, if i had more tummy space, i would have ordered every dessert on the menu to try la... But cause i had to save calories and tummy space for my next café stop, so i only ordered one.. Banana earl grey tart at $5, super love how this dish worked out, it would be even better if i had a scoop of ice cream to go with this warm tart!

I will definitely come here again to try their dinner menu and their wings and the other desserts again! Just a stone throw away from kovan mrt so its pretty accessible, don't expect awesome service when they are really packed...

Buttercakes N Cream @ Sunset Way

Here for an entry of a café i tried 2 weeks back, chanced upon them on instagram because of their rainbow cakes. So i made reservations for a saturday evening for a celebratory dinner affair with my besties..

This place had a really cosy and warm interior.. However, if you do prefer indoor seatings, it is highly advice that you make reservations for that, cause the indoor capacity is maximum about 10pax only, but they have huge space for alfresco seating.. And look at their cakes special! Just make u wanna order everything, wait till u see their menu for desserts, crazily enticing..

My friend ordered their bacon aglio olio at $11.90++  but requested for less spicy.. So though the pasta was al dente, and pretty fragrant, it lacked the spicyness that would make me like it.. I would say the same for the seafood aglio olio at $13.90++ that my other friends ordered, and also less spicy..

And this was my order, their salisbury steak that cost me $15++.. I reckoned worth every cent, huge patties that were larger than what pepper lunch offers at $8 for one patty.. It was juicy and tender and was pretty lean.. Love it, and will definitely order it again...

We were pretty ambitious with ordering, and ended up ordering their bites platter at $16++ so we could try abit of everything in their sides category, left 1/3 untouched and there was too much carbs, and we were stuffed full...

I was the only 1 who ordered drinks, as their drinks menu was pretty unique, so I decided to give it a try with their Citrus Twist at $5.50+, which was really refreshing and I didn't regret ordering..

Last but not least, DESSERTS!
Their cake special earl grey crunch, it wasn't in the menu, so we didn't know how much it cost, and i forgot what it stated on the receipt, but i know it was expensive, like $8-10 for this piece.. But the taste was superb, every one of us loved it! It was like chocolate ice cream top with earl grey cake based and crunchy bits on top..

And we tried the rainbow cake that cost us $12++ that we had as birthday cake for the b'day girl.. It came with chocolate sauce for you to drizzle...

Well presented cake, however the cake disappointed my tastebuds.. Every bite was mediocre, just a plain vanilla sponge cake with whipped cream, and the chocolate sauce drizzle only made it slightly better.. I gotta say again that au chocolat still has nicer rainbow cakes for the same price tag..

Would not mind coming again to try their other amazing dishes, but for a hdb area, the price tags for the certain food and desserts can be pretty expensive as there is gst & service charge... It costs us $115.72 for 4 dishes, 1 side, 2 desserts, 2 drinks..
